The mission of ISSS is to support international student and scholar success and retention through: immigration advising and compliance; individual support services; and collaboration with departments, faculty, and staff across campus in a manner that strengthens and broadens the intercultural and international dimensions at Georgia State University.
Welcome to Georgia State University!
You are joining a dynamic and diverse international community with students on campus representing over 120 countries. The staff members of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS), a division of Enrollment Services, is eager to meet you, and to provide assistance and support as you fulfill your academic goals at this outstanding, urban, research University. We strive to provide friendly, quality service to the 1,900 international students and scholars on campus, and to remain up-to-date on the ever-changing regulations that affect your immigration status. Come to us with any questions or concerns that you have, and expect us to inform you of any relevant updates or opportunities. ISSS will keep in touch with you through our website, monthly newsletters to your GSU e-mail account, and our ISSS Facebook Page, so check your account regularly for these important updates and announcements. Our website will be a key tool in answering many of your questions, but we welcome you to come by our office during advising hours or to call if you need any assistance. Weekly workshops and special events/seminars are offered throughout the semester as well.
During your time at Georgia State, I challenge you to get involved not just in the classroom and the laboratory, but also with the numerous student groups and activities on campus. The friendships and leadership skills you will gain by joining an ISAC group (International Student Association Council), becoming a V.I.S.A. Leader, or joining any of the 240 student organizations on campus are invaluable. Similarly, I hope you take the time to explore Atlanta and other destinations in the beautiful southeastern U.S. during your stay. One easy way to travel is through the wonderful trips offered by the Recreation Center’s Touch the Earth programs. Check them out!
You have been given an incredible academic opportunity, one that I hope will also lead you to learn more about yourself and the world around you. We are happy you’re here, and look forward to helping you throughout your studies at Georgia State.
Best wishes, and welcome to Atlanta!
Director, International Student & Scholar Services
