Fun Fact: Jody once starred in a commercial selling lawn care supplies while living in China.
Jody is the Director of International Student & Scholar Services. Her career trajectory in international education began almost 20 years ago when she was teaching English in China. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs from Marshall University where she also received her Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Counseling. During her graduate studies, she tailored her internship and practicum requirements to support the needs of international students studying in the United States. Currently, Jody is a doctoral candidate at the University of Missouri-Columbia in the Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis program. In 2012, she was a CIES Fulbright Recipient in South Korea and in 2014, she was awarded the Excellence in Diversifying International Education from Diversity Abroad. While traveling is always a favorite activity for her, she also enjoys discovering new podcasts and studying geography.
Assistant Director for Scholar Services (H-1B, TN, Permanent Residency Specialist)
Fun Fact: Drew has done comedy improv, where he pretended to be riding a dinosaur in front of other grownups.
Drew's role in ISSS is to advise all Georgia State faculty, researchers and staff, who are being sponsored by their departments on issues regarding the filing of employment-based visas and green cards, while also overseeing the J-1 scholar program. Drew is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Sewanee: The University of the South. He has also received a second undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree in Film Studies from, respectively, the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Inspired by his time as an international student, Drew then went on to work for the Humphrey Fellowship Program at Vanderbilt, a Fulbright exchange with educational leaders from developing nations and emerging economies. Drew also previously worked for Georgia State advising F-1 and J-1 students. Drew comes to us from the University of Texas at Austin, where he worked with J-1 scholars, employment-based visas and green card petitions. Drew is a major film and history buff and enjoys poring over maps, hiking and photography.
Assistant Director for Student Services
Fun Fact: Allie has studied percussion (classical and jazz) since she was 10 years old.
She hails from Liberty, South Carolina and relocated to Atlanta to join the ISSS team in 2016. After graduating from Presbyterian College in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a double minor in International Studies and German, she went on to achieve a Master of Arts in International Education from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont. She has studied and lived in Germany, which generated a passion for travel and learning about new cultures. Allie enjoys the outdoors, live music and walks with her doggo, Chico!
International Student Advisor
Fun Fact: Destiny has an amusing fascination with the British Royal Family.
Destiny currently serves as an International Student Advisor. Destiny earned her Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Technical Writing, from Albany State University in 2012. Destiny has studied abroad in Barcelona Spain and participated in a medical internship in Cuzco, Peru. Upon graduating from ASU, Destiny started a career in Higher Education working as an Admissions Counselor/Recruiter for Albany State University. Destiny enjoys art museums, traveling, writing poetry and listening to various genres of music. Destiny comes to us from Life University where she served as an International Admissions Counselor.
Senior International Student Advisor
Fun Fact: Kristina’s mother is from Slovenia. As a child, her mom was one of the only immigrants in the small town she grew up in.
Kristina Guinn has almost 20 years of professional experience in International Education. As the daughter of an immigrant, Kristina witnessed her mom’s triumphs and failures as she navigated life in a new country. This perspective has fueled Kristina’s passion to meet and help International Students and Visitors. While pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Spanish at Missouri State University, Kristina began professionally working with International Students. Upon graduation, she worked in International Admissions and as an International Student Advisor at Missouri State University before joining Georgia State’s International Student & Scholar Office in August 2021.
Kristina recently moved to Georgia from Springfield, Missouri. Her interests include practicing Spanish, spending time with her two children and husband, exploring restaurants and other activities in her new home state, traveling, outdoor activities and playing all kinds of games.

Fun Fact: Katie has a 5-year-old ball python named Khaleesi that enjoys long naps under a log and exploring her new home.
Katie currently serves ISSS as an International Student Advisor. Originally from Chicagoland, she received her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Asian Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she studied abroad in China twice. Her love for higher education and international cultures led her to a master’s degree at Indiana University–Bloomington in Higher Education and Student Affairs and a graduate assistantship with its Office of International Services. When she is not at work, Katie enjoys reading fantasy and Chinese history books, hiking, Big10 football, board games and biking around Piedmont Park. Katie loves traveling and is working on completing a culinary tour of Atlanta!
International Admissions Coordinator
Fun Fact: Charlotte likes to visit filming locations from her favorite movies and TV shows when she travels. Her favorite location so far is Chatsworth House, where Pride & Prejudice (2005) was filmed.
Charlotte currently serves as the International Admissions Coordinator for ISSS. Originally from Bellingham, Washington, she received her bachelor’s degree with a double major in French and Linguistics and a double minor in Music and TESOL from Western Washington University. During her undergraduate studies, Charlotte had the opportunity to study abroad in Chambéry, France and Oslo, Norway. She went on to pursue a master’s degree in International Education Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California. In her free time, she enjoys being outside, playing DND and reading medieval French literature.
International Student Coordinator
Fun Fact: Meng served as an interpreter for FIS Snowboarding Junior World Championships and World Championships of Snowboarding.
Meng currently advises International Student Associations Council (ISAC) and provides international students and scholars with assistance in health insurance, tax and tuition waiver. Meng originally comes from Harbin, China. She received her bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting in China and was an exchange student at the University of Illinois-Springfield for one semester. Meng also earned her master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Pennsylvania State University and after graduation, she worked at Penn State’s Intensive English Communication Program, coordinating the tutoring center and teaching ESL. In her spare time, Meng enjoys learning about different cultures and languages from books, movies and food recipes.
Carlos M. García

Fun Fact: Carlos has hiked the “Camino de Santiago” pilgrimage in northern Spain!
Carlos currently manages front office operations and assists our International Students and Scholars at the Atlanta campus. He comes to us from Kennesaw State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management. After graduating from KSU, Carlos taught English in Spain for three years and obtained a Master's in International Education at the University of Alcalá. He enjoys exploring Atlanta on his bicycle and loves going to neighborhood festivals. His favorite hobbies are camping and hiking and he has worked as an Outdoor Adventures Trip Leader and Camp Counselor. Carlos loves learning about different cultures and he is currently studying French and Catalan. Carlos also enjoys traveling, playing guitar, painting, photography, meditating, eating out and game nights!

Fun Fact: Veronique was born on the 37 square-mile French and Dutch Caribbean island of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten and was an F-1 student.
Veronique has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Stetson University and a Master of Science degree in Counselor Education from Florida International University. Veronique has over 20 years of experience as an international educator. She is passionate about helping students from around the world to attain their academic and personal goals and to have a positive experience in the United States. Veronique lived in Aruba for two years and has traveled to Europe, South America and throughout the Caribbean. She treasures time with her family and enjoys traveling, especially to warm and sunny places.
Senior International Student Advisor, DSO, Perimeter College - Clarkston
Fun Fact: Deborah is a Georgia native! She was born and raised in Gwinnett County, which is part of the metropolitan Atlanta area.
Deborah joined Perimeter College in 2002. Previously, she worked at Gwinnett Technical College in Admissions, the Registrar’s Office and eventually in Information Technology. Deborah assisted with building the online registration system that is still in use at Gwinnett Technical College. Deborah has attended several colleges including Georgia State and the former Georgia Perimeter College. She loves spending time with her four children, relaxing outside, hiking and reading.
International Student Advisor, DSO, Perimeter College - Dunwoody
Fun Fact: Tacoma’s brother was an artist. In his memory, her art collecting hobby helps to support other artists.
Tacoma has worked for Perimeter College since November 2007 and has over thirteen years of immigration advisement experience. She loves working with International Students and assisting them to achieve their educational dreams in the United States. Tacoma is a Floridian but has lived in Georgia for thirty years. She enjoys domestic and international travel and spending quality time with her family.

Fun Fact: Isa's favorite dish is Caribbean Stewed Iguana!
An international student herself, Isamar feels this is the position for her and is very excited to be on the ISSS team. At 17 she decided to finish high school in Florida and then moved to Argentina for 4 years to study abroad. After moving back to the U.S. she transferred to Johnson & Wales University and finished her degree in Hotel & Event Management. Isamar enjoys trying new restaurants, spending time out in nature and her hobby is working with creatives building photography and videography sets.

Fun Fact: Christine is a major Harry Potter fan.
Christine is originally from Sweden and she was a competitive tennis player growing up which led to her earning an athletic scholarship at the University of Buffalo, New York. She completed her bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and is now pursuing her MBA here at Georgia State.
In her free time, Christine still enjoys playing tennis but also loves going on hikes, spending time with friends and family and trying out new food.
Graduate Administrative Assistant
Fun Fact: Because he is fascinated by interstellar phenomena, he likes to stare at the sky at night when it is cleared in the hope to witness shooting stars.
He comes from the Central African Republic, and he has been in Atlanta since 2015. He graduated from Georgia State in December 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in public policy, and he is pursuing his master’s in public policy with a concentration in public finance. In his free time, he usually works out or goes strolling in a nearby park or he simply stays home watching documentaries on ancient civilizations. Also, he likes traveling and learning about different cultures worldwide. He has either lived or visited Cameroon, Morocco and France and he plans on visiting many more in the future.

Yasmine is from the Bahamas and arrived in Atlanta in 2017 and earned her undergraduate degree in Accounting at Georgia State in May 2020. She is now in her first year of an MBA with a concentration in Accounting. Her interests include hanging out at adventurous places like amusement parks and discovering new places in Atlanta.
Fun Fact: Daisia loves to travel.
Daisia is a Senior at Georgia State majoring in Biology with hopes to go on to PA school to become a Pediatric Physician Assistant. She was born and raised in Miami, FL and moved to Atlanta in 2018. In her free time, she loves taking trips across the world and spending quality time with her family.
Fun Fact: I am a citizen in three countries: Finland, Iran and the United States.
I am a freshman student majoring in psychology. I was born and raised here in Atlanta, alongside my sister Rose and brother Daniel, who also attended and graduated from Georgia State. Prior to attending Georgia State, I trained as a pre-professional dancer at Atlanta Ballet. During this time, I had the opportunity to attend summer dance programs in New York City and Boston and in 2019, I had the privilege of accompanying Atlanta Ballet’s main company on tour to the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Other than dancing, I enjoy taking walks, reading, listening to music and spending time with my family and friends.
Fun fact: While I was in the Navy, I got a lot of opportunities to travel and lived in many different states: AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, FL, IL, NM, OK, TX, etc... I also got to meet a lot of international service members from the Personnel Exchange Program.
I am a sophomore student majoring in Public Health. I was born in Da Nang City, Vietnam and immigrated to the United States when I was 9 years old in 2008. I lived in Rome, GA for about a year then moved to a small town named Statesboro. When I was a junior in high school, I had an opportunity to be dual enrolled in college. I graduated high school in 2017 with Ogeechee Technical College’s Certification of Nurse Aide; However, I decided to join the military to give back to my second homeland instead of proceeding to college. In 2017, I graduated from Navy boot camp and became a Sailor in the United States Navy. I graduated from Hospital Corpsman Basic in Ft. Sam Houston, TX and became a Hospital Corpsman in February 2018. Although I graduated with honors because I was not a citizen, I couldn’t go outside of the U.S.A for my first duty station; therefore, I picked Marine Corps Logistic Base in Albany, GA as my duty station. After many obstacles, I finally became a naturalized citizen in October 2018. In 2019, I married my high school sweetheart who is also a member of the Army National Guard. After my 4 years of enlistment, I decided to come home to my family and to pursue higher education at Georgia State in the hope to become a Dental Hygienist.
Fun Fact: Providence was once the president of a cappella group.
Providence is a second-year special education major and she wants to teach middle school. She is in a sorority; Alpha Omicron Pi and is always with her sorority sisters. Providence is an aunt to two nieces, Selena and Natalya. She loves thrifting and listening to sza. If she could travel anywhere in the world, she would go to Spain.
Fun Fact: Gaby volunteered as a tutor for a non-profit that focused on helping kids in Peru struggling with their education due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Gaby is currently a sophomore at Georgia State pursuing a Marketing degree. She was born and raised in Lima, Peru and moved to the US in 2018. At Georgia State, Gaby is part of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and she recently joined Model UN. Her biggest interest is fashion and in her free time, she likes hanging out with friends, going out to eat and exploring Atlanta!
